Fertility Testing at Boca Fertility

Better insights lead to better fertility outcomes.

Fertility testing is a crucial first step for individuals and couples seeking to better understand their reproductive health and plan for their fertility journey. By identifying any underlying factors affecting fertility, our specialists can tailor treatment plans to increase the likelihood of achieving a successful pregnancy.

Hormonal Testing

Basic hormonal tests are performed during days 1-3 of the female menstrual cycle. These blood tests evaluate hormone levels that play a key role in fertility, such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen, and progesterone.

Ovulation Testing

Ovulation testing is an independent fertility evaluation process that involves tracking basal body temperature and cervical mucus changes to determine peak periods or patterns in ovulation. Your fertility specialist may recommend the use of an ovulation predictor kit to determine if ovulation is occurring regularly.

Ovarian Reserve Testing

When your ovaries do not produce a viable amount of healthy eggs, this is called low ovarian reserve. Your egg reserve is extremely indicative of your ability to become pregnant. Ovarian reserve testing is used to determine the quantity and quality of your remaining eggs. These tests may include the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) test and antral follicle count (AFC) through ultrasound.

Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

The HSG test is an X-ray procedure that checks for blockages or abnormalities in the fallopian tubes and uterus. The results of an HSG test can greatly influence treatment decisions, helping patients and physicians avoid unnecessary procedures or treatment methods that may be unsuccessful due to structural abnormalities. The HSG test is often performed around the same time as a Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS) between days 5-10 of the female menstrual cycle.

Semen Analysis

A semen analysis is a standard fertility test used to assess a male’s sperm count, motility, morphology, volume, and other factors that affect sperm quality. A semen analysis is often the first male evaluation performed to determine if the male factor is contributing to infertility. It is estimated that 35-50% of couples experiencing infertility can be attributed to the male factor.

Sonohysterogram (SIS)

A Sonohysterogram, also known as a Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS), is an ultrasound procedure utilized to evaluate the uterine cavity. The test will determine if uterine abnormalities, such as fibroids, polyps, scar tissue or uterine malformations, are present. It is routinely performed before In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to make sure that there are no abnormalities which may interfere with embryo implantation.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-A or PGT-M) is a specialized genetic testing technique used to screen for specific genetic conditions or chromosomal abnormalities. PGT has proven to be a valuable tool for couples at risk of passing on genetic disorders or those seeking to improve the success rate of IVF by selecting genetically healthy embryos.

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive outpatient surgical procedure that can be used to both diagnose and treat a variety of infertility and gynecological conditions including pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, tubal pregnancy, ovarian cysts and tubal disease.

What to expect at your fertility evaluation

At Boca Fertility, our comprehensive fertility evaluation process empowers individuals and couples with valuable insights into their reproductive health. Here are the general phases in the process and what you can expect at each stage.

Initial Consultation

The fertility evaluation process typically begins with an initial consultation with one of our fertility specialists or reproductive endocrinologists. During this appointment, we will discuss your medical history, lifestyle factors, and family planning goals to better inform the selection of tests and recommended treatment plans.

Testing & Evaluation

Based on your initial consultation, your fertility specialist will recommend a series of tests to gain the insights needed to make an appropriate recommendation for your personalized fertility plan. After the tests are completed, your fertility specialist will review the results and share any identified issues, abnormalities, or areas of concern.

Treatment Planning

Once a diagnosis is reached, your specialist will recommend a personalized treatment plan based on the findings and work with you to determine the next steps in your fertility journey. These could include lifestyle modifications, fertility medications, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or surgical interventions.
